Not only is this not believable in the cultural sense, it's also unbelievable in how quickly they "fall in love." Soldiers weren't high in hiearchy of the Roman class system but glaidators were literally the bottom, below slaves. A decurion in the Roman army falls for a gladiatrix. My biggest gripe with this series is the romance. You've seen a main character like Fallon, a similar plot and definitely comparable villains. That being said, it isn't revolutionary in any way. It's a good book to bring to the beach or sit on your back porch and escape your troubles. There are some books you read not because of the intricate plotline or the morally grey characters but because they are fast paced and not emotionally draining. It's because of her (and the fact that it's a gladiator story) that I keep reading this series. Though she kills people for sport, she is genuinely kind and selfless. She's strong, stubborn, brutal and loyal to the end.

And there is nothing wrong with that.įirst, I would like to say I love Fallon as a main character.

The first was enjoyable enough for me to pick up the sequel. This book is the sequel to The Valiant which I read last year.
